What's a Float tank?

Steffi-6.png

Floating is achieved by adding a high concentration of Epsom salts to water. Much like in the Dead Sea, this raises the density and buoyancy of the water.

It is this change to the density that adds buoyancy to the water and allows a flotation tank user to effortlessly float.

Flotation can benefit everyone, from athletes and creatives to business people, the elderly, and those with medical issues. Floatation is a form of alternative medicine and boasts an extensive wealth of benefits.

Benefits of Floating

Muscle Recovery

Float therapy can help reduce inflammation by increasing blood flow to your muscles. This makes floating great for athletes! The high concentration of Epsom salt acts as an anti-inflammatory. Meaning you can bounce back faster and better than ever.

Improve Arthritis

Medication and surgery can be used to treat its symptoms and slow its progress, but there is no cure for arthritis. That’s why alternative treatments like flotation therapy are so important: time in the float tank can provide much-needed relief from pain, as well as enhance the positive effects of other pain management strategies for arthritis.

Reduced Anxiety

Research has shown that floating may lower stress, anxiety and even depression by reducing how much sensory input the brain and nervous system receive. Floating has been shown to improve one’s mood, relieve anxiety and provide stress relief; float therapy can increase creativity and enhance focus.  This gives your mind time to rest and reset.

Increase Immune Health

When we're stressed, our bodies produce cortisol, a hormone that can suppress immune function. By reducing cortisol levels, float therapy helps to support a healthier immune system. In addition to lowering cortisol levels, floating may also decrease circulating metabolites of sympathetic nervous system hormones, like adrenaline and noradrenaline.

Better Sleep

Research shows that regular float sessions lead to improvements in symptoms of insomnia, and a shortening of the time it takes to fall asleep, Some research indicates that float therapy alters brain activity to look more like the lighter stages of sleep itself, when we’re in a deeply relaxed, mixed state of consciousness.

Pregnancy Pain

Float therapy is an effective self-care tool during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. As the baby grows and the body undergoes changes, the buoyancy of the water in a float tank provides a unique sensation of weightlessness. This can bring immense relief from the physical strain, and discomforts experienced during this stage of pregnancy.

What if I don't want sensory depravation?

That's totally okay! Once in the tank, the controls are in your hands. There is a starry ceiling and spa music so those not wanting sensory deprivation have that option. Or, hit the knobs and turn all sound and lights off for a complete sensory deprivation session.
